A 9 man delegation from Sierra Leone Aquatics Federation paid a courtesy call to the Head Office of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) on 17th January 2024. Previously known as the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo Association it marked their first visit under the new name since the rebranding on 14th February 2023.

The President of the Aquatics Federation Mohamed Turay stated that the primary purpose of the visit was in recognition of the NOC as its parent body, and their support is vital for Sierra Leone Aquatics to function effectively.

President Turay was the main challenger to NOC President Prince Sualley at the elective congress of the National Olympic Committee held on 10th December 2022. His visit signified a willingness to collaborate with President Sualley. He promised to lend his expertise to enable the NOC to produce world-class athletes who can represent Team Salone at elite competitions on the continent and globally.

Secretary General of the Aquatics Federation Abdul Turay highlighted the urgent need for collaboration as 2024 is an Olympic year. He also stated that their Federation is working hard to support its athletes, especially those in the Swimming category, who could potentially qualify for the Games.

President Sualley applauded the Aquatics Federation noting they have been one of the standout member federations in the Olympic family. He called on other sporting disciplines to emulate the success of the Aquatics Federation.

Sierra Leone Aquatics has consistently produced athletes at recent major events such as the Tokyo Olympics and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. In the build-up to the Paris Olympics the NOC President challenged the visiting delegation to continue on this trend.

Climaxing the meeting a World Aquatics Banner was handed over to the NOC. Thanking the Aquatics Federation for their kind gesture, President Sualley reminded them that the NOC HQ is their home and they are always welcome to visit.
