Sierra Leone Chef De Mission, Yayah Koroma has dismissed fake rumours and talks that some Sierra Leonean athletes are no longer with their teammates in the Games Village.
Earlier, fake reports on social media stated that two Sierra Leone were missing from the Games Village in Paris but in a short message to the President of Sporting Associations and Sierra Leonean sport-loving fans, the Chef De Mission has dismissed such fake report making the round on social media and asked for a focus on the bright future of sports in the country.
In his short message, Koroma said all four of the country’s athletes are residing in the Games Village, and are diligently training for their respective competitions.
“Currently, all our athletes are residing in the Games Village, diligently training for their respective competitions. Their dedication and resilience are commendable,” he said adding that they are proud of Mariama Koroma, the 17-year-old judo athlete.
“Despite facing a formidable opponent in a 37-year-old three-time Olympic athlete, Mariama demonstrated incredible spirit and determination. Her journey to the Olympics, like that of all our athletes, is a testament to their hard work and perseverance,” he said.
Koroma further called for continuous uplift and support for one another, celebrating the accomplishments of the country’s athletes who he said have worked tirelessly to reach their prestigious stage.
He said: “Together, we can foster a positive environment that encourages growth and development in Sierra Leone’s sporting landscape. Thank you once again for your steadfast support. Together, let us focus on the bright future of sports in Sierra Leone.”
The latest message from the Chef De Mission is the final icing on the fake rumours cake after an earlier visit by the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James Twins, the Executive Director of Sports, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, the National Olympic Committees/Commonwealth Games Association-Sierra Leone President Prince Sualley and his Secretary General, Josep Nyande all visited the team at the Games village.
