Sierra Leone youngster, Mariama Koroma will come up against Taiwanese judo veteran Lien Chen-ling in the elimination round of 16 of the preliminary round of the -57 kg women’s fight.<\/div>\n

Mariama Koroma aged 17 will have to be up to the task of eliminating the 36- year-old Chen-ling otherwise known as “Queen of Judo” by the Taiwanese fans.<\/div>\n
The fight already dubbed as Mother versus Daughter will come up on Monday, July 29, at the Arena Champ-de-Mars, otherwise known as the Grand Palais \u00c9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re is the third fight of the day and on mat 1.<\/div>\n

The veteran who is in her third Olympic Games finished fifth in her Olympic debut in Rio in 2016 and was eliminated after a first-round bye, in the round of 16 by Slovenia’s Kaja Kajzer during the round of 16 at the Tokyo Games.<\/div>\n

On Sept. 25, 2023, at her fourth Asian Games, Lien won the first Asian Games gold medal in judo ever won by a Taiwanese woman by defeating Japanese standout Momo Tamaoki, an opponent she had never beaten before.<\/div>\n

Unlike the veteran, Mariama Koroma will be making her Olympic debut in Paris but has been a tough nut to crack. At the 2024 African Championships in Casablanca, she competed in Round 1 -57kg.<\/div>\n

She finished fifth place at the 2023 African Open in Niamey in the -63kg. Koroma is one of the eleven judo teens at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the second youngest of all athletes behind Nera Tiebwa (aged 15) from Kiribati.<\/div>\n

Koroma becomes the first female Judoka in Sierra Leone to qualify for the Olympic Games.<\/div>\n
